Cooperation with the Roma Parliament

Our cooperation started with the Roma Parliament when Emese Süvecz was invited to curate an exhibiton with roma women artists. The Roma Parliament is the culture center of the Hungarian Roma community. It runs a gallery (Balázs János Gallery) and has a collection of 800 artworks made by roma artists. Roma Parliament works isolated from the official Hungarian culture, its activity and members are invisible in the Budapest cultural sphere. For community building purposes, the gallery organizes a workshop for roma artists each summer. KMKK built up a flourishing contact with Timea Junghaus, the curator of the gallery. Her curatorial conception was to invite mainstream Hungarian artists to the workshop, so that Miklós Erhardt, Róza El-Hassan, János Sugár and Emese Süvecz could participate in 2003.
